Smart Metering
Real-time smart water monitoring
Bring your existing water meters into the digital age. Get real-time data, detect leaks before they cause damage, and say goodbye to manual readings.
What is Smart Metering?
Smart Metering is a modern way to measure water consumption, enabling automatic, accurate, and regular monitoring without the need for physical readings. By connecting water meters to an online portal, you get an instant overview of usage, savings, and potential leaks â anytime, anywhere.
Why do clients choose Smart Metering?
Smart Metering changes the way we think about water. Instead of yearly guesswork, it offers instant data and total control.
Real-time data
Instant water usage overview
Online access
Data always available via an intuitive portal
Automated readings
No physical access to meters required
Leak detection
Real-time alerts for unusual consumption
How Smart Metering works?
Installation of the smart module on the water meter
A communication module is installed on the water meter to record consumption data.
Online data transmission to the central network
The modules periodically send water usage data to the central system via an encrypted transmission.
Online data processing in the EWS® Cloud system
Data is automatically saved to the EWS® cloud portal, where it is processed and evaluated.
Online consumption visualization via the portal
Users can access consumption data in real-time, export reports, and monitor savings trends.

Frequently asked questions
1 What exactly is smart metering and how does it work?
Smart metering enables remote reading of meters (water, heat, electricity, etc.) at short intervals without physical visits. Meters send encrypted data via LoRaWAN / NBâIoT / Wireless MâBus to the cloud, where we visualize consumption and monitor for anomalies.
2 How difficult is the installation and how long does it take?
Most installations are performed without any downtime. A sensor or communication module is fitted onto the existing meter and paired with the network. For an apartment building (20â40 units), installation is typically completed within 1 day.
3 Is the solution compatible with our existing meters?
Yes, we support common brands and interfaces (pulse output, MâBus / WMâBus). During the quoting process, we verify your specific types and propose the most suitable module or replacement only where necessary.
4 What about accuracy, calibration, and legislation?
The measuring devices comply with relevant metrological standards and maintain valid calibration periods. Additionally, the platform monitors drifts and alerts you to any data inconsistencies.
5 How do you handle security and GDPR?
Data is encrypted endâtoâend (at both the radio layer and during cloud transmission). Access is role-based, user actions are audited, and we provide processing agreements in full compliance with GDPR.
6 How often are readings taken and what is the battery life?
The standard interval is 15â60 minutes depending on the meter and network type. With typical settings, the battery lasts 8â12 years. Intervals can be adjusted (more frequent data may potentially shorten battery life).
7 Will the system alert me to leaks or unusual consumption?
Yes. Real-time analytics monitor flows, night-time leaks, and sudden spikes. Notifications are sent via email/SMS and displayed in the portal dashboard. You can set custom thresholds and alert scenarios.
8 What is the Return on Investment (ROI)?
Savings come from eliminating physical readings, rapid leak detection, and more accurate cost allocation. For residential buildings and commercial sites, the ROI typically ranges between 18â36 months depending on project scale.
9 Does the system have an API and data export options?
Yes, we provide REST API interfaces and CSV exports for integration with ERP/BMS systems or data warehouses. Access tokens with permission management are available for integrators.
10 What if there is no signal coverage at our facility?
We can deploy proprietary LoRaWAN gateways for local coverage or choose NBâIoT/LTEâM which offers better building penetration. We perform a site survey and connection test prior to every installation.
11 What does the user portal and reporting look like?
You get a web dashboard with maps, charts, and filters (by facility, meter, or period). The system provides automatic monthly PDF/XLSX reports, daily email summaries, and exports for accounting and billing.
12 What kind of support and SLA do you provide?
We offer remote device monitoring, firmware updates, and helpdesk support during business days. For larger projects, we provide SLAs with guaranteed response times and onâsite interventions.
